Harime Soltan 2 - Magnificent Century Kosem - Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem
Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem (Turkish pronunciation: [muhteˈʃɛm ˈjyzjɯl cøˈsem], English: The Magnificent Century: Kösem) is a Turkish television sequel to the 2011 Turkish television period drama Muhteşem Yüzyıl. Written by Yılmaz Şahin and Nüket Bıçakçı, it recounts the life of Kösem Sultan, a slave girl who became one of the most powerful women in Ottoman history after she was captured and sent to the harem of Sultan Ahmed I.
Safiye Sultana’s life (real name: Sofia) started as a slave, like many Ottoman Royal women before her. The only child of the Venetian Governor, she was kidnapped by pirates in the Mediterranean Sea and brought to İstanbul where she was later bought by Nurbanu Sultan, Sultan Selim II’s wife, as a gift for her son, Murat. Safiye had the gift of expert communication and paired with her wit, made her an unbeatable force when it came to orchestrating some of the most decisive plots and battles in the palace. It was very difficult to deceive Safiye Sultana. She wasn’t a day dreamer, she was a woman of action who’d confront difficulties in very realistic ways. She was arrogant but not in vain. Her arrogance never harmed her. On the contrary, it bolstered her authority and secured her legacy as one of the most powerful women to ever reign over the Empire. Safiye Sultana helped her husband Murat ascend to the throne and then her son, Mehmed. She became one of the most important figures of her era. Safiye left many legacies including the distinction of the first woman to control the foreign policies of the Empire.
